HOBY Award 2004

11/16/04

RHS announces its Hugh O'Brien Leadership Award recipient this year: Jessie Cates.

Following is her winning essay:

"Leaders are born in all shapes, sizes, and colors. It is one's heart by which they are driven to set positive examples, not by appearance. With the ever-changing world today, one is inspired to provide direction. Leaders are role models for all observers. Although challenges are presented and they may not always be easy to handle, someone has got to take charge. Leadership is hard to come by. It takes courage and undeniable confidence, but the rewards brought with seeing an impact made are endless. Leaders strive to receive fulfillment from making a difference today for a better tomorrow."

Our alternate winner is Lauren Crowson. For more information, see the HOBY website.
