RHS Announces Senior Awards

Rossview High recently announced its 2003 Valedictorian and Salutatorian, as well as other top senior awards.

Laura Sikes, Valedictorian, is the daughter of Geoffrey and Joanna Sikes. She has attended St. Bethlehem and Burt Elementary schools, Northeast and Rossview Middle schools, and Northeast and Rossview High schools. She has been very actively involved in many school and extra-curricular activities.

Laura has been involved in student government all four years of high school and is currently serving as Vice-President of the student body. She has studied piano since second grade and has been in band since middle school. She currently serves the band as clarinet section leader and as President. She has been selected for numerous All-County and All-Midstate bands and was named to the All-State band in both her junior and senior years. Laura has been involved in several Math Team competitions and is a member of Rossview's varsity Academic Quiz Bowl Team. She attended the Governor's School for the Arts after her sophomore year and was a delegate to Girls' State her junior year. She has been actively involved in Junior Classical League since tenth grade. She was elected Co-Consul this year and was the top Latin I and Latin II student in the state. She is also a National Merit semi-finalist.

Laura is a member of the 2002-03 Youth Leadership Clarksville class and is an active participant in the youth group at Madison Street Church of Christ. She plans to attend Lipscomb University in the fall where she will major in business and continue her involvement in student government and music.

Charlie Bergen, Salutatorian, is the son of Reed and Emily Bergen. He attended Smith, Northeast Elementary, Northeast Middle and Rossview Middle schools, and Northeast High before joining the initial student body at Rossview High School in his junior year.

Charlie's school activities including marching and symphonic bands, National Honor Society, Math Team, Academic Quiz Bowl Team, Black History Team, Key Club, and most importantly, Junior Classical League. As a Latin I student, Charlie won the National Pentathalon title, and has ranked nationally in the top 10 in academic competitions.

Charlie is a National Merit Commended student. His dream college is Princeton University, majoring in the classics.
