The RHS JROTC Band was recognized by School Board member George
Giles and Principal Frank Myers at the Board of Education on Tuesday,
November 9, 2004, for their excellence in performance and for being
re-invited to perform at the JROTC National Drill Meet again this
spring in Daytona Beach, Florida.
This unique group, one of only 2 in the United States, is under
the direction of RHS Instrumental Music Director, Tom Tapscott. Mr.
Tapscott said, "The JROTC Band was formed in October, 2002 as a
cooperative effort of the RHS JROTC and RHS Band departments. Members
of the band are enrolled in either JROTC classes or in the band
program. At maximum strength, the band consists of 30 members and a
drum major. Uniforms consist of standard issue JROTC items and are
complemented by appropriate service insignia and ribbons. In addition
to augmenting school functions, the band has appeared in the Downtown
Clarksville Rivers and Spires Parade and the Clarksville Veteran's
Parade. Future plans call for an increase in the band appearance at
RHS spring athletic events as well as public concerts in the
community".
On Tuesday evening, the band performed A Salute to America
for the School Board members and CMCSS staff and public attending the
meeting. The band was surprised with a $258 check, donated by
Shoney's, from the "Sweet Sounds of Summer" fundraiser last summer to
promote music education in our schools. Following are photos of the
