Mrs. Leigh Bonds' freshmen English class and Mrs. Lee Ellen
Beach's Theater I class were treated to a presentation by author Jeff
Gottesfeld (A Heart Divided, c2004.) Mr. Gottesfeld related
his experiences in living in Nashville during the 1990's, and the
history of the Battle of Franklin and how it related to the "Battle
of Redfern" in the book. Mr. Gottesfeld shared how he and his wife
collaborate on books and TV/film scripts (they are currently working
on "All My Children" scripts, and were the first writing team for
"Smallville" recently). Mr. Gottesfeld also taught students the
structure of a "great book", listing romance, the hero's personal
journey, high drama, and an overarching social issue as essential
elements. He explained how the controversy of the Confederate flag in
the Tennessee high school was resolved through understanding both
sides' feelings of hurt and fear. Following are photos of Mr.
